How do we do it
Protecting girls against sex trafficking
This amazing program delivers comprehensive education and economic development activities to fight sex trafficking in northeast Thailand.
Across the Greater Mekong Sub-region, thousands of young girls are targeted by traffickers for commercial sex work. OPENaid is committed to empowering these girls.
The program includes:
- Education program to young girls in the highest risk areas where children are trafficked into prostitution
- Microenterprise, economic & community development initiatives helping families maintain girls and their education needs
- Deliver program using trained OPENaid staff, into 5 schools in 5 provinces (25 schools will participate in 2009)
- To establish a model that can be duplicated in many other schools and regions.
- Train Teachers and students to manage these initiatives.
What life change will result from successful implementation of this program (5 schools)?
- 220 girls will be aware of the risk of trafficking and prostitution
- 20 families will be self sustaining
- 475 families will be educated to pro-actively educate others against the dangers of the sex trade.
- Schools (5) will be trained to deliver microenterprise projects.
- Staff in schools (5) will be educated and supported to campaign against trafficking and child prostitution.
- That if possible this may be linked to a local group who would support the program and offer volunteers to support it.
