Who we are

Openaid

Openaid started in Melbourne, Australia, founded by our Executive Director Justin Whitecross in 2002. Justin holds a vision for a community of people creating responses to reduce the unique vulnerabilities of women and girls from poor families, and to lessen the long term damage to trafficked and abused girls.

Reducing poverty and exploitation of girls

Poverty, lack of education and the status of women and children lead to the occurrence and rise in sexual exploitation in Southeast Asian countries. For Openaid the ultimate goal in all cases is to address the root causes of exploitation. Poverty and complex social issues are difficult to tackle, but our unique approach with local Thai, Burmese and Laotian women tackles the issues that matter most. Young Australians are involved at every level of the organisation and continue to inspire and produce significant local and international results.

Where do we work

Teams work in Thailand, Burma and Melbourne.

Vision

Our vision is to see vulnerable girls and victims of sexual exploitation equipped to live free and fullfilled lives.

Mission

To respond to poverty, sexual exploitation and social injustice affecting girls in Southeast Asia, through interventions that promote their dignity and well-being.
